FAQ

Will compressing hurt the quality a lot?+

We find the highest quality that fits inside your target size.
When quality would have to drop too far, we slightly reduce the resolution instead, so you don't get blocky compression artifacts when you zoom in.

Is 1KB 1,000 bytes or 1,024 bytes?+

Different sites count it differently, so we use the stricter one (1,000 bytes).
Your file passes either way.

Does it also fix the face size and background color?+

The face is found automatically, and the photo is cropped so the head height (top of head to chin) and position match the spec.
Face detection also happens only on this device.
Requirements like a white background, looking straight at the camera and being taken within the last 6 months have to be met by the original photo, so please use a photo taken for ID purposes.

Are my photos stored on a server?+

No.
Your photos are never sent over the internet.
They're processed only inside the browser you're using right now, and when you close the page, both the originals and the results are cleared from your device's memory.

Is information like the photo's location passed along too?+

Result files don't include EXIF metadata such as location or device info.
The rotation info is applied first so your photo doesn't end up sideways, and then it's removed.
